Abortion Pill (RU-486)

You may have heard of “medication abortion”, “at-home abortion” or “chemical abortion”. These are terms used to describe an abortion pill regiment generally made up of two drugs: mifepristone and misoprostol.

Note: Mifepristone is approved by the FDA for use up to 10 weeks (70 days) after your last menstrual period. Misoprostol has not been approved for use in pregnancy.

Mifepristone lowers the levels of progesterone in your body. Progesterone is a hormone that plays an important role in sustaining a pregnancy. The second pill, misoprostol, is meant to cause contractions in the uterus, which induces labor. It is important to gather as much information as possible as you make a pregnancy decision.
